I am related to most of the Ufkeses in the United States, but not all. My great-great-grandfather was Johann Frederich Hinrichs UFKES, a native of the Holtrop Wiesens, area of Ostfriesland, Germany. Johann
was born there in 1838. He emigrated to the United States, settling in Hancock County, Illinois. He married Noentje Lena GRASS in Hancock County, Illinois, in 1874. Johann died in Hancock County, Illinois in 1924 and is
buried with Noentje at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near Basco in Hancock County, Illinois. |
