Helen Adams Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, on June 27, 1880,  the first child of Kate Adams Keller and Captain Arthur Keller, a former officer of the Confederate army and publisher of the newspaper The North Alabamian.

Helen and Anne begin their career on the lecture circuit in 1913, which is to last more than 50 years.

In 1936, Helen Keller moved to Westport, Connecticut, where she lived until her death on June 1, 1968, at the age of 87
