Why Go with Us?

  • use the outstanding resources of one of the top genealogy collections in the United States
  • receive guidance from nationally-known genealogist Michael Neill, M.S.  Michael will help you get the most out of your trip through individualized attention in the following areas:
    • pre-trip planning work
    • developing research strategies and in using resources while you are at the library
    • answering follow-up questions after the trip
  • join a small congenial group
  • network with other researchers
  • learn with short lectures each morning in at the hotel before the library opens
  • ride, don't drive!  (Driving is an option for those not near our pickup locations.  We will pick up at St. Peters and St. Louis, MO; along I70 in Illinois)
  • stay very close to the library in the comfortable Fort Wayne Hilton Hotel
  • receive an orientation to the library

Why  the Allen County Public Library?

  • MidWest's largest genealogical library
  • All Federal Census Microfilm through 1920 (including Soundex)
  • All National Archives Passenger lists
  • Extensive genealogical periodical collection (from which PERSI was created)
  • Extensive collection of print genealogical materials
  • A WHOLE LOT MORE!

Here's a more complete list of materials in their collection

Additional reasons?

  • Michael assists trip members at the library as much as time allows.
  • Bus takes you to and from library each morning and evening.
  • You are NOT just DUMPED off at the libary and left wandering around the collection.
  • Small group size allows for (if desired) more individual attention and interaction with other trip members.

What previous trip members said:

  • The organizers did a fantastic job and Michael's expertise and patience and enthusiasm was so helpful!
  • I enjoyed the class and learned quite a bit since I am just a beginner.
  • Very helpful, from the pre-trip experience to the aid that Michael gave us in the library.
  • Excellent trip! I also learned a lot from the group and Michael.
  • The bus, the people at the library, and the hotel were great!
  • Nice banquet, very nice, congenial group, great to share ideas with.

You don't even have to ride the bus.

A part of this research trip is "virtual" preparation via a website and and email listserve set up specially for trip participants. A few of last year's participants drove themselves to Ft. Wayne and met us at the hotel. Other participants got to know each other "virtually" before meeting in reality on the bus and at the hotel. Check out our registration page for information on fees for those who do not ride the bus.

Go to this top genealogical research library for a great price (includes hotel, bus, one banquet, and Michael's services):
*If you can't ride the bus or don't wish to ride the bus,
non-bus rider options are available. We will be having pickups along I70.
**the bus will (at scheduled times) pick up and drop off trip participants at the library

(you are on your own for photocopy money!)
